Please note our Annual General Meeting is on April 22 at 2pm over Zoom.
As a reminder, roles for the 2025-26 year are as follows: President, Treasurer, VP Social Programming, VP Academic Programming, VP Marketing, VP Operations, Honours Representative. Individuals may hold multiple roles simultaneously with the exception of [President with Treasurer], as per AMS bylaws.
Bhoomi Bhoomi (for VP Marketing)
My name is Bhoomi and I recently watched the Bhangra Club’s reel, which got 448k views. Normally, I’ve worked more in areas like newsletters, editorial, chapbooks, and emails, but that reel really got me interested in promoting a club through socials. It made me realize how fun and impactful social media can be in reaching people.
I’ve worked with Canva and editorial tools quite a lot, especially when preparing newsletter posts for previous clubs’ socials. I’ve also seen other members prepare reels that reached over 200k views, and I have friends I can turn to for ideas and tips on promoting a group. I’d love to bring that creativity and collaboration into this role.
Bhoomi Bhoomi would also like to be considered for the role of VP Operations.
Sruthy Loganathan (for President)
My name is Sruthy Loganathan, and I am completing my 3rd year in the 2024-25 school year and going to 4th year in the 2025-26 school year. When entering the English Language program, I heard about this association, and I really wanted to join. However, I was busy with work. on my courses. I have this opportunity next year to try something new before I graduate. I believe the ESA provides an incredible opportunity to engage with fellow students, support academic growth, and help build a community where all students feel connected and valued. I am a very organized person and I feel like this will help with my leadership skills in the future. I am a student with some physical challenges on my left side, but that never stopped my from giving up in learning new skills. As a student deeply engaged with English studies, I have developed a profound respect for the diversity of voices, stories, and perspectives that shape our understanding of the world. I am excited about the prospect of helping to create an inclusive, enriching environment for students within the department, where discussions about literature, writing, and culture can flourish.
Beyond my academic interest, I have been involved in volunteering in summer day camps and helped with my choir during concerts. Although these were before COVID 19, these experiences have allowed me to develop strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills that I believe would serve me well in the role I am applying for.
I hope for you consider my positions in one of these roles, and I promise to make the 2025-26 season memorable.
Sruthy Loganathan would also like to be considered for the roles of VP Academic Programming, VP Social Programming, VP Marketing, VP Operations, Honours Representative.
Jessica Yeung (for President)
Dearest ESA members-
This is Jessica Yeung (she/her), your current VP of Operations and perhaps your future ESA President! Thank you for making 2024-25 a memorable year, and I hope to serve you again in the upcoming semesters. This year I ran the website and blog, in addition to managing logistical matters of the Association. I served as first point of contact via email, and assisted other VPs in running events. In October I launched our new Poetry Night event series to extend our club’s social reach. I enjoyed assisting other VPs in their roles where support or attendance was needed. Notably, while serving in proxy of our council Representative, I had the opportunity to present our year-end report at the latest AUS meeting. I also attended meetings with faculty alongside our President throughout the year. I believe my uniquely varied experience within the ESA executive team will serve me well in the coming term, whether as your President or your VP Social. Whatever role I serve in 2025-26, I will endeavor to run collaborative events with other AUS clubs and continue to strengthen our faculty community.
Please reach me on instagram at @jess_yeung anytime; I’d love to have a chat!
Yours warmly,
J. Y.
Jessica Yeung would also like to be considered for the role of VP Social Programming.
Hannah Madar (for VP Academic Programming)
As someone who is intrigued by the cross-disciplinary aspects of English studies, I believe have the passion and drive to introduce English majors to new academic opportunities and avenues. Because I personally aim to minor in Informatics in my fourth and fifth years, I hope to engage with faculty who teach and research in media studies, library archives, digital humanities, and cultural collections. I believe I can offer unique connections and resources for students considering careers; provide insight for those planning their academic journey; and foster interest in potential majors, representing how the skills developed in English studies are fundamental to many disciplines. Overall, I think English Language and Literature holds a lot of interdisciplinary potential—and I would be interested in drawing up potential avenues that students can consider.
Hannah Madar would also like to be considered for the roles of Treasurer, VP Social Programming, VP Operations.
Armaana Thapar (for President)
I have been the treasurer of the English Student Association for this past year, and through first-hand experience, I realize the passion and dedication each member and executive brings to their role. The club is a community that fosters relationships between not only students but also faculty. This thriving network has been building slowly over the course of the ESA’s operations, and I intend to enhance it.
My primary qualifications include my ability to write well and establish concise communication methods, which has been demonstrated by my academic coursework as an English literature major and my experience as a staff writer for The Ubyssey student newspaper. I have also had three of my art pieces exhibited at the Reveal/Reform and Space(s) exhibitions hosted by the UBC Hatch Art Gallery, revealing my creative and cultural awareness. Finally, I have a strong base in graphic design, reimbursement software, and AMS club policies which will allow me to relay information precisely to other executives and substitute in different roles if the need arises.
Other related experiences include my participation in the Reading/Coding Buddies initiative hosted by the Vancouver Public Library (VPL) and my work as a tutor through which I constantly read and edited academic work and developed planning and organizational skills to streamline student growth. I am endeavouring to replicate this growth-oriented attitude through my role at the ESA and am excited to collaborate with diverse minds to ensure this happens!
Armaana Thapar would also like to be considered for the roles of Treasurer, VP Academic Programming, VP Marketing.
Juliette Hardy (for VP Operations)
Hi everyone! My name is Juliette Hardy and I’m in my fourth year of Honours English Literature and a Major in Political Science. I am running for VP Operations for the next academic session because I’d love to have the opportunity to foster a welcoming and supportive environment for my fellow peers in my final year! Ever since first year, I’ve helped plan events for my English community. I was on the Arts One Student Council, and then in the 2023-2024 academic year, I was on the ESA as VP Operations, so I am familiar with the role and its responsibilities. These experiences, and my time managing the UBC Farm Market communications will help me interact with faculty, and students. Moreover, I’m excited for the opportunity to hold the short story competition and get more writers for the ESA blog so my peers have a space to share their voices and perspectives. I’d love the opportunity to take up this role again and help plan memorable events for all English students. Thank you for taking the time to read my bio! 🙂
Juliette Hardy would also like to be considered for the role of Honours Representative.
